For the holidays I whipped up a couple of these hot cocoa’s in a jar for friends and family. They’re super simple and make a great add-on gift for anyone (and aren’t just for Christmas! you can make them all season long).
I used pint sized mason jars that make 6 servings of cocoa. Here’s the recipe:
- 1/2 cup powdered milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt (mix it in with the 1/2 cup sugar)
- 1/4 cup miniature chocolate chips
- Miniature marshmallows (optional)
- Crushed peppermint candy (optional)
Plus I used wrapping paper and ribbon to cover the tops (and write the directions on). You could also use little fabric squares and a hang tag.
Just layer everything in the jar, in order and don’t get over-zealous with dumping things in or this will happen…
I topped mine with marshmallows although you could also do crushed peppermint candy (or both!) depending on who you’re giving it to.
On the top of each jar I just wrote the directions: For 1 serving, place 1/3 cup mix in a mug with 1 cup boiling water.
And that’s it!
I used to love giving DIY gifts and somehow stopped the older I got! So this is me going back to my Martha Stewart roots 🙂 Enjoy!
