I have a cold right now. Thanks, winter.

Although to be fair, this is THE most mild Ohio winter I can remember…ever.

December had basically no snow. January, which is over in a week and a half, has seen snow but not the terrible blizzards of last year (at least yet). And the outlook for February, at least according to Accuweather, is mid-40s and on the uptick for March and spring (oh blessed spring!)

I’m not complaining, internet. I want winter to be over as soon as possible so I can get back to shorts and flats, longer days, and improved happiness.

But this year winter feels less of a thing to be endured and more of a thing to be enjoyed. A little crisp fresh air. A blanket of white snow. My nice new warm navy parka. Mittens!

It’s a weird shift in thinking I’ve experienced recently. Not only surviving winter…but appreciating it.

I think a lot of this has to do with moving into the city. Yes, I still have to commute a disgusting amount to and from work. But I’m not…trapped…because of the weather. I don’t have to park my car outside or on the street anymore so no more driving over snow banks. I don’t have to worry about a food shortage because Heinen’s is just down the street. And even though it gets dark early, the city is full of lights and people most of the evening.

So even though I’m nursing a nasty cold, by the time I’m better hopefully the weather will be inching closer and closer to spring. My absolute dead favorite time of year.

Huzzah!
