MRI GO

Version X was released in 2014 with expected search capabilities. In 2015, MRI GO re-defined how users search in our products.

MY ROLE

I researched search patterns and applied findings to MRI’s flagship software to create an enhanced search experience.

Steakholder Insights & Ideation

I worked within the organization to understand what would need to be included in enhanced search and the impact on development. I then worked with my team to design this new feature.

Strategy & Vision

I created wireframes and worked with development on early prototypes to convey how enhanced search would redefine how our users navigated through our products.

Execution & Validation

I created new design patterns for the GO Card card and helped scope out enhanced grid functionality for the development team. Once a working prototype was created, I hosted client working groups to validate the designs and identify missing facets.

Leadership

I presented designs to PM/PO, development, and clients to help share the vision early on of what “new” search would be like and how it can create efficiency gains.

THE CHALLENGE

MRI’s core software is comprised of many different products. It’s typically the case that a client might own 3 or more products. Within each product there’s a myriad of facets a client might want to search on. For example, in Residential Management, a client might want to search for residents, prospects, units, vendors, etc. In another product they might manage vendors, work orders, or accounting for a commercial suites.

The challenge was to create an enhanced search that would search across products within all areas of the product and present the results in a quick way so you can access records on the fly.

THE APPROACH

The first step to dealing with advanced search was to determine what clients would need access to at a moments notice. What records and why? The would likely want to perform actions from the search record vs opening the record, what would those actions be?

We studied “mega” search patterns where search looks across an entire system. How was it searching, how was it dealing with a large volume of results, and how was it displaying varying results? Our other challenge was making search responsive. What information would drop or be hidden on smaller screens?

Once we had a loose idea of what search needed to include and how the technology behind it would work, we took designs to clients for feedback. Did we choose the right things to be searched? Were we displaying the data for that record they needed to see?

THE IMPACT

With MRI GO clients can now quickly and easily access records and information without having to know what area of the product to navigate to. With the GO Card and related actions clients can also give a quick overview of the record and take a next step if necessary.
